El Perchel Beach: Waiting For Its Moment?

El Perchel beach in Arguineguín El Perchel beach in Arguineguín

El Perchel beach is currently only used by surfers when the famous Arguineguín wave is firing, but plans are afoot for the area.

South-facing El Perchel beach runs west from the cement factory towards Arguineguín town. It is 700 metres long, currently completely natural, and is made up of large rounded pebbles and stones.

It's completely exposed so unless the sea is flat calm, this beach gets waves. On days with a south swell, the famous surf wave just offshore crashes into the beach.

There are no imminent plans to develop this area of Arguineguín, but the cement factory loses money and is in a prime tourist development spot so expect change in the long term; During the pre-crisis days there were even plans to make El Perchel a sandy beach and develop the area behind it into a resort and residential area.

Right now there isn't much reason to visit, although the walk to the cement factory is pleasant enough as it doesn't do much these days.

To get to El Perchel, walk east along the shore from Arguineguin town (past the campsite) and you can't miss it.
